Transcontinental Reflex Film… minimising the spread of infection in the workplace

Concern about the risks associated with bacterial and viral infection has led to demand for products and systems of work that minimise the impact and spread of infection in the workplace and public buildings. TC Transcontinental Advanced Coatings has responded by developing reflex antimicrobial. reflex antimicrobial is a light-textured, hard-coated polyester film, part of TC Transcontinental Advanced Coatings’ range of high grade graphic overlay films that have been developed to meet the exacting requirements of Screen Printers, Membrane Touch Switch and Fascia-panel manufacturers and their end users. reflex antimicrobial is especially ideal for touch panels used in hygienic settings such as healthcare and catering, where it is imperative to keep bacteria and mould to a minimum.

This is achieved by incorporating a SteriTouch® antimicrobial additive during the manufacturing process. Based on innovative silver technology, SteriTouch is designed to reduce the growth of harmful organisms such as bacteria, mould and fungi. The integration process ensures even distribution of the SteriTouch antimicrobial agent throughout the textured hard-coat and the film surface, providing a reliable, stable bacterial barrier.

All of the active components used by SteriTouch hold EPA and FDA approvals for food contact, as well as being supported for inclusion on the Biocidal Products Regulation, enabling their use throughout Europe. The nature of devices using fascia panels and membrane overlays means they are often overlooked during routine cleaning, yet are designed to be used and touched by multiple people. It is therefore even more important to keep the risk of cross contamination as low as possible. reflex antimicrobial is based on a UL listed polyester film which employs superior primer technology.

This offers excellent anchorage of textured hard-coat to the front side; and to the reserve side an ink receptive layer for both UV and solvent based inks, making it suitable for a wide range of applications in sanitary conditions. The superior scratch and chemically resistant surface of reflex antimicrobial protects against dust, cleaning and damage from many of the chemicals used in a working environment. reflex antimicrobial is coated in 1000 Class Clean Rooms achieving optimum performance in hardness, embossability, chemical resistance, a switch lifetime of more than 3 million flexes and the ability to be die-cut.
