A recent study by FitRated.com has unearthed some truly disgusting statistics about commercial gym equipment. While most people recoil in horror at the thought of lifting a toilet seat, it turns out that those inocuous-looking free weights in the gym actually harbour on average 362 times the bacteria of that seat. Which would you rather lift now?

Swabs were taken from a number of machines in several chain gyms across the country, and the results were downright filthy. On average the equipment had 1million colony forming units per square inch; to put that into perspective, toilet seats have on average 172CFU per square inch. Yuck.

But there is hope! SteriTouch additives can be added to all the common materials used in the manufacture of gym equipment – powder coated metal frames, foam handles, rubber buttons, plastic parts and touchscreen membranes can all be made antimicrobial at the point of manufacture. SteriTouch prevents the growth of bacteria, biofilm and mould for the lifetime of the product. It works continuously and effectively, and it’s already used by a huge range of industries worldwide. We do all the development work in house, and you can use the popular SteriTouch brand for free, so all that’s left for you to do is decide what you want to use it in!
